"Now that occult sciences are becoming fashionable, more and more people want to have a talisman. But why? In order to be sustained in a luminous, disinterested work, or to obtain material success without having to make any effort? Unfortunately, more often than not, greed and laziness are behind this desire to possess a talisman. Why bother to study, reflect, meditate, pray, or be vigilant? The talisman is there; it will do the work. In the meantime its owner will stroll about and sample every pleasure, profiting from all that the talisman procures for him. Well, a talisman must not be used in this way. That is why a true magus does not satisfy every request: he studies people and agrees to prepare a talisman only for those he feels will put it to good use, both for themselves and for others."
