"On the physical plane, people exist as separate, individual beings, and their lives do not directly affect the lives of others. To all appearances, your suffering or joy is not their suffering or joy. If you persist in eating indigestible food, you will damage your own stomach, not theirs. But above, on the subtle planes, there are no barriers between beings, and all our inner states affect others. Yes, for above there exists only one being, the cosmic Man who is a synthesis of all beings.
We live in cosmic Man, in fact we are this cosmic Man, and no creature exists as a separate entity. In consequence, we have the moral law that we cannot do good or evil to others without also doing it to ourselves. Perhaps, at face value, this doesn’t make much sense?
