"As a result of studying the nature and manifestations of fire and water over a long period, initiates made them the symbols of the two principles, the masculine and the feminine, which work together in the universe. When a man and woman meet they reproduce the encounter between fire and water. If they don’t know how to act with regard to each other, the water, the woman, will evaporate and the fire, the man, will be extinguished.
As fire and water are able to destroy each other, you could conclude they are enemies. In appearance, that’s true; men and women are constantly fighting each other. And yet, if they seek each other out, there’s a reason for it, and we must find out what it is. The reason is that they represent the two cosmic principles, which together create life. But in order to truly create life instead of destroying each other, water and fire must not come into direct contact. Water must be poured into a container and placed above the fire; in this way the fire will exalt the water, and a considerable release of energy will take place, thanks to which the two will set the whole world in motion."Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov
