"If our lower nature is so selfish, vicious and cruel it is because it has always had to struggle to survive in very difficult conditions. You only have to think of the difficulties animals must overcome in order to find food and shelter and defend themselves from predators. Can you really expect people’s primitive nature to be generous and disinterested when it has had to endure such conditions? No, it had to behave aggressively and selfishly in order to survive –and it has learned its lesson to perfection. Our lower nature has earned its right to a place in the sun. It has done what it had to do, but it does not represent the final phase of human development. It is now time for people’s intelligence to manifest itself and create a balance between the forces of instinct and the forces of reason. Humans will know fulfilment when their lower nature becomes, as it were, food for their higher nature, thus allowing it to benefit from all that accumulated wealth." Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov
