"So many people who claim to be spiritualists actually behave like the greatest materialists! Whether one is a materialist or a spiritualist depends on one’s level of consciousness. People are not spiritualists because they go to church, believe in reincarnation and have an interest in the invisible world, nor are they materialists because they are interested in matter. Whether you are a spiritualist or a materialist depends on how you live in relation to spirit and matter.
Religion as some practise it is really only materialism; we have no sense of the spirit's presence. This is why many so-called spiritualists should take a look at themselves instead of criticizing materialists. They would see that by focusing exclusively on the forms and outer expressions of religion they lose its content and meaning. If you want to be a true spiritualist, you must always put the life-giving spirit first."Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov
